About Glen

“Glen is a true maverick and a visionary! Plus he does not need the second comming of Ronald Regan to help him "grow a pair!"
Andrea Hansen Kelley

My name is Glen P. Mayes II and I love Austin. As a leader in after-school programs, non-partisan “good government” groups, and non-profit groups, I am thrilled to be a part of this wonderful community. My professional and volunteer experience with at-risk youth has stirred me to be an avid promoter of bridging the achievement gap and encouraging community support for all children.

For the past three years, I have passionately served as Program Director and Head Coach for 21st Century, an Austin ISD after school program that teaches 3rd through 5th grade students life skills through sports. I also have served the past seven years as a security and juvenile corrections officer. Other current activities include:

  • Young Professionals Council of Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, events co-chair
  • Austin chapter of Liberty on the Rocks, president
  • America’s Future Foundation, member
  • Texans for Accountable Government, active member, and
  • Green Dharma Center, member.

Through my work in juvenile corrections and with several after-school programs, I have a unique understanding of how the school system works in Austin. But I gotta keep it real here: I believe Austin needs to do more to Educate our children. After all, my passion has been helping at-risk children. But I’ve spent the last few years watching politicians from both sides and I know it’s time for a change.

To get our community on track, we’ll need regular Austinites who are committed to smaller government, social tolerance, and the freedoms for which so many have given their lives.

As we see political and financial turmoil around us, this year will be a momentous one – our future as a free nation hangs in the balance. I love this country and our weird part of Texas; I see an opportunity to continue the cycle of success that I have enjoyed. You deserve the opportunity to support an Austinite who share your values and principles.

This is what I believe in: Every human is, by nature, free and independent and have certain inalienable rights, among which are those of enjoying and defending life and liberty, acquiring, possessing, and protecting property, and seeking and obtaining happiness and safety.Find more detail about my work history, click here:
